STATE OF THE ART DINNER CRUISE VESSEL FOR CHICAGO
DeJong & Lebet, Inc. and Service Marine Industries have again combined their respective Naval Architecture and ship construction capabilities to produce the state of the art in sleek, elegant dinner cruise vessels, - the ODYSSEY. ODYSSEY is 175’ length overall x 37’ beam. She features fully enclosed Main and 2nd Deck dining rooms, pilothouse and finely appointed VIP dining room/lounge on the 3rd Deck, partially open outside dining area on the 3rd Deck aft, and an open Sun Deck topside. ODYSSEY was styled by Service Marine after the modern European mega—yacht look, complete with forward deckhouse cowling, tinted windows, and raked Mediterranean bridge type mast over the Sun Deck.
DeJong & Lebet, Inc., Naval Architects, Jacksonville, Florida, furnished engineering services for the vessel including hull & deckhouse lines, weight and stability calculations, tonnage, and complete structural design. The vessel is U.S. Coast Guard certified under Subchapter T. She carries a stability letter for 800 passengers plus 50 crew, on a partially protected waters route. DeJong & Lebet, Inc. also designed bilge keels for the vessel in order to improve the sea—keeping and passenger comfort aboard the vessel.
The vessel is designed to accommodate 442 interior diners on the Main and 2nd Decks, up to 50 diners in the VIP Lounge, and 216 at exterior table seating on the 3rd Deck and Sun Deck. She features a complete galley forward on the Main Deck, and galley prep area and galley storage below decks. Also below decks are the finely appointed passenger restrooms serving the Main Deck Lounge.
ODYSSEY is powered by twin Caterpillar 3408TA main engines rated for 4701W @ 1800 RPM. The engines are coupled to ZF BW-161 Marine Gears driving 5-bladed propellers furnished by Bird-Johnson, Mobile, AL. The engines are mounted on Lo—Rez vibration isolators and feature a Lo—Rez torsional shaft vibration isolator, in order to improve the quality of the ride from noise and vibration standpoints.
Electrical power is provided by two (2) 250 KW Caterpillar 3406T generator sets. The bow Thruster engine is a Caterpillar 3208T, which drives a 36’ Schottel tunnel Thruster, 250 HP. All engines were furnished by Holt Power Systems, Morgan City, LA.
The interior of the vessel is very upscale, in line with its sleek modern exterior. The VIP Lounge is richly & warmly appointed through careful use of wood trims and veneers, while still complying with U.S. Coast Guard fire protection regulations. The pilothouse is ultra-modern, with full width console, and extensions either side of the helm station to form a U—shaped command center.
The vessel’s delivery trip to Chicago will take her around the Gulf Coast and the tip of Florida, up the Atlantic Coast to the St. Lawrence Seaway, and through the Great Lakes System to the southern end of Lake Michigan. The vessel is being delivered by Bayfront Marine, Inc. of St. Augustine, FL, who made a similar trip in the summer of 1990 with the 150’ GOODTIME III.
The vessel is operated by Premier Yachts, Inc. of Chicago, Illinois. Mike Higgins of Premier Yachts played a significant role in the conceptual design and layout of the ODYSSEY.
